Is the dog course mandatory in the canton of Thurgau?

Yes, for all dogs. Since 1 April 2024 the requirement applies regardless of the dog's weight.

What changed
Until 1 April 2024 the requirement applied only to dogs weighing 15 kg or more as adults. That weight limit has been removed.
Scope
At least ten lessons of recognised practical dog training. Content: lead walking, general obedience, behaviour in the environment. If the dog's age allows, a puppy course is added.
Deadline
Within one year of acquiring the dog.
Proof
The owner must be able to show they attended the course if the municipality or the veterinary office asks.
Who checks
The municipalities, together with the veterinary office.
